Receiving Vault

Constructed in 1892, Greenwoods Public Receiving Vault is one of Hamilton’s most recognizable buildings. Because graves were originally dug by hand and soil hauled by horse and wagon, Greenwood Cemetery built this building to house the deceased until the time that a grave could be prepared. Over time this building has become one of the city’s most popular landmarks.
